Leeds architect James Simpson is believed to have designed the first Lees Wesleyan Chapel which was built about 1844. This chapel building was demolished in 1966 and the land subsequently given over to housing. The photograph shows the adjacent refurbished Wesleyan School (datestone 1873) which incorporates a chapel room. A worshipping Methodist fellowship continues and the building is also put to valuable community use.

This has also been the case in the past for in the Keighley News of November 1884 it was reported that a soiré in connection with the opening of the Lees and Cross Roads Mechanics’ Institute was held in the Lees Wesleyan school-room. "Mr. George Spencer, vice-president of the institute, occupied the chair. The following gentlemen were all present, and addressed the meeting:- Mr. John Clough J.P., Keighley, and the Revs. J.I. Britten, of Haworth, and W. Jackson, of Keighley." A musical programme followed for everyone to enjoy.
