Cycling

I enjoy cycling with Henry for fitness and fun. I bought a road bike secondhand for £90 in April 1998. I had it fitted with mudguards, carrier and day panniers.
It had twelve gears, but nevertheless I found I needed a "granny gear" for those steep hills as a concession to my age ! Also the frame at 22.5 inches was a little too large for me.

In February 2000, having decided cycling was not a passing fad, I invested in a new Claud Butler Dalesman - equipped with a triple chain wheel for those low gears and, for the first time in my life, a correctly sized frame at 20.75 inches. It bowls along a treat.

My mileage between May 1998 and August 2007 totals 14,400.

Henry bought himself a new bike in October 1999 using birthday money and money he had saved up. His is a Marin Palisades Trail mountain bike.
He upgraded the brakes to Shimano LX V-brakes. With an aluminium frame it is a lighter bike than the Dalesman.
