North Yorkshire Moors Holiday Pages

Our 1999 summer holiday was spent at a self-catering cottage about one and a half miles from Goathland. Closer to us was Beck Hole and upstream from there were these delightful and sheltered Thomason Falls. On the Wednesday of our holiday Henry and I attempted to paint the scene. My poor effort appears below the photograph.

The Birch Hall Inn at Beck Hole has the unique distinction of a large oil landscape painting mounted on the outside wall above the door. It is a landscape by Algernon Newton R.A. who lived in the hamlet during World War II. He had a more famous son, Robert Newton, the actor.
